A pioneer in connected services in passenger cars in Brazil, Chevrolet announced the latest numbers for its integrated services. According to the manufacturer, there are already around 265,000 connected cars in the country. This record number includes the entire line offered by Chevrolet in Brazil – from Onyx for Take S10.
Integration allows customers to choose to use services such as car wifiO OnStar (which includes concierge, security and emergency services) and myChevrolet. Adherence to these services has been increasing rapidly. To give you an idea, according to Chevrolet, there was a 30% increase over the previous year.
The trend also occurs for other manufacturers. In 2021, board integration was present in such models Hyundai HB20, Fiat Toro and Jeep Compass – three national models that came from the factory with a mobile chip.
”Connected services grow rapidly because the driver has already recognized their value. Whether in terms of convenience, practicality or, above all, stability”, commented the director of Connected Services at GM Latin America, Jaime Gil. “One of the biggest benefits is more safety for passengers.”
Launched in 2015, the platform OnStar establishes a connection between the vehicle and the call center. Therefore, if a serious accident occurs, the location is immediately informed to the attendants, who communicate with the passengers.
The service also provides notifications for WhatsApp of the car owner. They range from warnings about upcoming services to notifications about the car – for example, about a low battery charge.
This is possible because the technology is integrated into the vehicle’s electrical architecture. That is, along with the battery charge and inspection time, it has the ability to detect possible problems.
According to Chevrolet, from 2020 to 2021, the frequency of repairs indicated by the program grew by 70%. Finally, OnStar also allows remote updates of vehicle systems via OTA (over the air). That is, the owner does not need to take the car to the dealer for this service.
Another feature that is growing in the market is the remote control of the car via smartphone. Such as, for example, locking and unlocking the doors, starting the engine and the climate or checking the distance of the car. At Chevrolet, in 2021, there were 400,000 hits.
“Many families use the same car and find it important that information such as the location and maintenance status of the car can be shared”, says Gil. GM.
