CAPES/Volkswagen Group Foundation Award for Excellence in Research in Sustainable Urban Mobility – Portuguese (Brazil)


The CAPES/Volkswagen Group Foundation Award for Excellence in Research in Sustainable Urban Mobility was created through the signing of a Technical Cooperation Agreement between CAPES and the Volkswagen Group Foundation, in 2021, and aims to encourage and recognize the production of articles in academic journals or research scientific research focused on the topic of Sustainable Urban Mobility.

The award will be given to scientific articles accepted and/or published in scientific journals, covering:

Category SUBJECT

Sustainable urban mobility from the perspective of Light Vehicles

  • Clean and alternative energy sources for light vehicles;
  • The development of the Brazilian energy matrix, aimed at providing the cleanest sources of energy, in an accessible, sustainable, technical and economic way;
  • Light vehicles powered by electric power, only and/or hybrid (combination of electric and combustion engines);
  • New options and sources of supply for light vehicles;
  • systems of strength training diversity, which allows the use of new sources of clean and more sustainable energy, such as: fuel cells, biofuels in general, biomethane, ethanol, etc.;
  • Use of connectivity to improve the mobility of urban delivery vehicles and passenger transport;
  • Development and implementation of infrastructure in cities, facilitating the use and distribution of light electric vehicles;
  • Analysis, mapping and reduction of environmental pollution in the cycle of development and production of light vehicles, in its various stages, considering the direct activities of automakers (research, development, testing and certification, manufacturing);
  • Analysis, mapping and reduction of environmental pollution emissions in the light vehicle production chain (focus on suppliers and the auto parts industry);
  • Analysis, mapping and reduction of pollution emissions by light vehicles, during their life cycle;
  • Reducing carbon emissions in the “from well to wheel” concept;
  • A place to access and recycle, in part or in whole, light vehicles that are no longer in working condition;

Sustainable urban mobility from the perspective of Heavy Vehicles (trucks and buses)

  • Clean and alternative energy sources for heavy vehicles (trucks and buses);
  • The development of the Brazilian energy matrix, aimed at providing the cleanest sources of energy, in an accessible, sustainable, technical and economic way;
  • Heavy vehicles powered by electric energy, in a unique and/or hybrid system (combination of electric and combustion engines);
  • New options and sources of supply for long distance journeys made by heavy vehicles;
  • systems of strength training that enable the use of new sources of clean and sustainable energy, such as: fuel cells, biofuels in general, biodiesel, SAF (sustainable aviation fuel), and so on.;
  • Development and implementation of infrastructure in cities, facilitating the use and distribution of large electric vehicles;
  • Analysis, mapping and reduction of environmental pollution in the development and production cycle of large vehicles, in its various stages, considering the direct activities of automakers (research, development, testing and certification, manufacturing);
  • Analysis, mapping and reduction of environmental pollution emissions in the heavy vehicle production chain (focus on suppliers and the auto parts industry);
  • Ways and tools to accelerate the economic/financial potential of electric vehicles in cities, for industry and for end users (reduction of Total Cost of Ownership);
  • Technical and financial feasibility study of recycling lithium car batteries from heavy electric vehicles;
  • Technical and economic feasibility regarding the options of low carbon energy sources for commercial vehicles, considering the available Brazilian energy matrix;
  • Use of connectivity to improve the mobility of urban delivery vehicles and passenger transport;
  • Decarbonisation of production processes and the commercial vehicle value chain.

Sustainable business models linked to improved urban mobility

  • Development, implementation and expansion of business models that address mobility as a service, such as: subscription vehicles, car sharing, collect the carintegration of public and private means, unity of costs and taxes, among others;
  • Promotion, acquisition and joint use of new means of transport, such as: scooters, bicycles, among others, using electric energy and/or active mobility as motion;
  • Creating and organizing cities and their people, with the use of new systems and means of transportation, especially those in a shared way;
  • Creation and provision of new payment methods for the use of public and/or private transport;
  • Development and implementation of infrastructure in cities, facilitating the use and distribution of electric vehicles;
  • Technological tools to collect, manage and provide data related to the optimization of transfers, traffic maps, information about public transport schedules and timetables;
  • The connection between urban mobility, hybrid and remote work structures and the decentralization of private job offers (which also focus on carrying out activities in areas further away from major centers);
  • Social and behavioral research, mapping and essays, from the historical and cultural perspective of society, as well as direct feedback from current and potential users, to plan trends and identify the reception and level of public readiness for new. business models linked to the optimization of urban mobility and the vision of mobility as a service.

Prizes include:

I – Airline and daily tickets for award-winning authors to attend the award ceremony, which can be done in person, at a date and place to be defined, as long as the CAPES budget and the sanitary conditions of the country allow it to be held. of the ceremony in such a structure. Tickets will be paid for sections covering the territory of Brazil only;

II – Payment by Fundação Grupo Volkswagen, by means of a deposit in the current account, to the authors of the winning works in each of the three categories, at the following rates, after deducting the lottery tax (the responsibility for collecting the tax is borne by Fundação Grupo Volkswagen):

III – Certificate for awarded authors; and

IV – Certificate of award for the postgraduate and research program where the award-winning article originated.

An honorable mention certificate may be awarded to works ranked 2nd and 3rd, depending on the category, determined by the Judging Committee to be of recognized quality.

Enrollment:

Job entries must be made only by website https://pcv.capes.gov.br from June 23 to August 8, 2022 and must contain:

I – A copy of the full article accepted and/or published in the journal, in digital format;

II – Letter of acceptance of the article dated and signed by the authority responsible for the scientific journal (only for articles that have not yet been published);

III – Declaration of the Author to agree with the control of the award;

IV – Justification of the application that includes the contribution of the article;

V – Copy/summary of the final work of the course to which the article is linked or of the proposal of the final work of the course for masters or ongoing doctorates; and

VI – Author’s Sub-Curriculum;

VII – Completion of Politically Exposed Person (PEP) Declaration

Applications made by any means other than those indicated in the notice will not be accepted.

Documents required for registration must be sent in digital format and website is shown.

Absence of any document listed at the time of registration means ineligibility for the article.

All data requested at registration will be used only for the identity, location and payment of each award-winning author.
