Bugatti Chiron Super Sport: develops 1,618 horsepower

The French manufacturer has put its Bugatti Chiron Super Sport on the test bench: the hypercar is actually even more powerful than expected!

And its engine 8.0 liter W16 developing 1,600 horsepower and 1,600 Nm torque, at a top speed of 440 km/h, Bugatti Chiron Super Sport it is the most powerful and fastest car in the world. It is also the epitome of all extremes, with the world speed record for a production model established in 2019, at no less than 490.484 kilometers per hour.

The Molsheim manufacturer recently posted a video on YouTube, where we found it to be quite interesting measured on a power bench : in fact, with the intention of developing and improving its cars, Bugatti constantly checks their power and high speed on the high performance single roller test bench.

Each wheel of the Chiron Super Sport is then placed on a large roller, making it possible to more faithfully reproduce the behavior of the car in real conditions, unlike benches with two small rollers that can cause loss of power or slipping. This type of test bench is particularly suitable extreme performance of example:

“On the single row test bench all the components can be tested under real driving conditions, completely and neutrally. To do this, we simulate the same levels of resistance as they might encounter on the road.explains Michael Gericke, engine developer at Bugatti: “In addition, we can repeat the tests, all year round, regardless of the weather. This helps us in our constant search for technical perfection.”.

Bugatti Chiron Super Sport: tested as in reality

This test bench has amazing characteristics: a set of rollers weighs 3.5 tons, and the rotating mass is 720 kg, the same as the actual weight of the car. It allows for fast simulation starting up to 480 km / hwhile still providing the safest braking, thanks to the braking power of 1,200 kW per roller!

To allow it to work, the four-meter high wind tunnel creates 300,000 m³ of air per hour, to send an air flow of 230 km per hour to provide the engine and the exhaust system with the cooling conditions required for their operation. At the rear, the suction system makes it possible to recover the exhaust gases and send them outside, thanks to the extraction chimneys 12.5 meters high.

Bugatti Chiron Super Sport: supercharged 8.0 liter W16

Fixed to the test bench by chains and plates secured by 20 high-strength screws, the Chiron Super Sport was tested by two engineers from Bugatti who sit in the cockpit: they can then accelerate the car to the speed required by the test procedures, and put its 8.0 liter W16 engine through its paces.

Thus, the model was able to reach a maximum speed of 440 km / h, making it possible to measure the power of 1,618.6 horse power and 1,665.1 Nm torque ! Customers of the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport, who are currently getting their hands on their new hand-assembled masterpiece, had to pay at least the base price of 3.2 million euros without taxes, get their hypercar.
