At Audi, electric models have the name e-Tron. This applies to both plug-in hybrid and 100% electric vehicles. The ringed brand went on the offensive in 2018 with its e-Tron, a large SUV of almost 5 meters, then it was reduced to a coupe version and then appeared the e-Tron GT, a high-end sedan built on the same platform as the Porsche Taycan. Technologically advanced cars, but very expensive because of their high space. It took 2021 for Audi to start lowering its standard for products that are still electric, but cheaper like this Q4. Even if it is more accessible than its counterparts, the fact remains that its prices start at €50,000 and it is even necessary to calculate €68,300 for our test model. We are well aware of the issue of democracy.

As its name suggests, the Q4 is an SUV. With a length of 4.59 meters, this Q4 is positioned between the Q3 and Q5. Like most of the brand’s other SUVs, this one is also available in a coupe version called the Q4 Sportback.

Today, we are testing the “classic” version. It presents a traditional look, but it is nevertheless the front end that is the most original with a large full grille surrounded by LED Matrix lights that can be customized. The back part is traversed by a light string that connects the two lights.

In the passenger compartment, we notice a very horizontal dashboard with 100% digital instruments and leaflets that run along the entire width. The multimedia screen measures 11.6 inches and this Q4 benefits from a few special features such as a dual-flat steering wheel with touch buttons that light up when the ignition is on, but also a floating dashboard that offers plenty of storage space.

A good point also for practical aspects. Passengers will enjoy more than enough legroom and headroom. Icing on the cake, the floor is flat which makes it easy to use the middle rear seat. The Q4 is sold with three 100% electric motors. Their power ranges from 204 hp for the 40 version to 299 for our test model, through 245 for the 45 version, reserved for professionals only. So the 50 is the most powerful, but above all, the only one to offer a wheel drive. This difference in power is accompanied by a greater torque with a value of 460 Nm, enough to bring down from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.2 s and reach a top speed of 180 km / h. Numbers that allow you to travel with complete peace of mind. Whatever the road network takes, some sound will be there. It is not enough to destroy this Q4, which shows a good homogeneity. Four-wheel drive strengthens it in this area and allows it to be more versatile, especially for those who would like to venture into slippery areas such as mountains for example.

Passenger comfort is at a very good level with excellent filtering of ambient noise, but also of air, regardless of tire balance, 21-inch wheels are included, even if 20-inch gives more satisfactory results. Without being too strong because of the orientation, which is a little unstable, while remaining precise, the Q4 offers great stability and perfectly controlled body movements. Finally, remember that for once on the electric model, the feel of the brake pedal is quite natural, almost warm.

Compared to some of these rivals, however, the Q4 stands out for its comprehensive recovery system. So it is equipped, like other models of the Volkswagen group, with a “Brake” mode that increases regeneration under braking, but above all, it has paddles behind the steering wheel to select the recovery power in normal mode (D. ) Three levels are available to you. As a result, thanks to all this, we have written an attractive balance for use. Therefore, in our test, we found an average of 18.8 kWh / 100 km, enough to ensure a range of more than 400 km.

In terms of charging, the Q4 has inherited recent developments allowing it to receive charging power of up to 135 kW in direct current. The charging time from 5 to 80% has been reduced to 36 minutes. There is no change in AC and 11 kW at maximum with a charging time of 7:30.
