Bottas was one of two drivers not to take part in FP2 – the other being McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo. Immediately after the training, the technical representative of FIAJo Bauer, reported that the live cell had been modified within the rules of the weekend sequence.
According to the German magazine Autor Motor und Sport, the problem was the exposure that eliminated Bottas from the outside. Q3 of the classification, still Friday, in the exhaust. The issue caused heat damage to the gear, wiring harness and floor.
As replacing the cables – the entire wiring harness – would be too difficult, Alfa Romeo thought it best to replace the entire chassis.
Without a penalty, Bottas starts eighth in the Emilia-Romagna GP race.
