Alfa Romeo says it had no problems in the free practice sessions

Alfa Romeo said it had a trouble-free day at Monza as the team began operations in pursuit of their home race, the Italian GP. Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu completed a good number of laps around the Italian circuit, mostly testing all available tire compounds and collecting short and long term data.

Bottas: “It was good today. It’s a good track to drive on and it’s even better when the car is as good as it is today. In terms of speed, we seem to be doing better than in the last two events, which gives hope for Sunday. There are still some adjustments to be done, but I feel like we’re not too far from where we want to be, and we’ll look for any small advantage we can get tonight. Our pace looks better than where we’re going from, because of the grid penalty, and I think here we can pass and move up. Hopefully we can end our points drought and get back into the top ten.”

Zhou: “We seemed to be competitive from the start, which was good to see, and I can say that the car was much better compared to last week in Zandvoort. I’m very happy with the progress we’re making, but we know we need to keep working hard. Overall it was very close once again today, and at a track like Monza it means a tenth can make the difference between Q2 and Q3. Qualifying tomorrow will be tough and we still need to work hard overnight to put ourselves in a better place for tomorrow.”
