In the 1960s, Fiat technical management demanded that the columns be redone, but general staff hesitated; why risk major changes if they endanger the reputation of the manufacturer because of a poorly understood technical problem?

Heir 850

Passing 850, 127 takes what made 128 successful: a transverse engine with a front wheel drive, an independent suspension on four wheels and front disc brakes. The engine is 903cc from the 850 Sport Coupé.

127 becomes an array

In 1980, Fiat introduced versions with a 45-hp diesel engine: the Fiat 127 D and the 127 Panorama (a 40-centimeter extended recess), both on the basis of the Brazilian Fiat 147.

The Brazilian subsidiary also produces “Rustica” intended for the domestic market equipped to deal with roads and scratches. A small “Fiorino” pick-up (first name) is imported into Europe.

In 1982, the third column of 127 reached the market but was not very popular. In addition, Uno arrived in 1983 and installed the 127th unified version for Europe and Latin America. The sports version is now 75 hp.

The best-selling car between 1973 and 1978, 127 saw its European career come to an end in 1987, but was manufactured until 1995 in Brazil and Argentina. In total, about 8 million cars will be repaired.

The Fiat 127 will have other names, other than the Fiat 147 of Brazil and SEAT 127 in Spain; it will also be called Zastava “Koral” in Yugoslavia (from which “Yugo” 45 will come from) and 127 in Poland. And it will take two cars to replace it: Panda and Uno.
