a 6-cylinder diesel enters the list

The promised thing, because, Mazda’s new CX-60 can now use diesel with not one but two 6-cylinder engines. We finally know their prices.

Rotary engine, large naturally aspirated gasoline engines, Skyactiv X technology, Mazda excels in the art of not doing like other manufacturers on the mechanical level. The last surprise to date, the Japanese brand had mentioned the upcoming arrival of two new 6-cylinder diesel engines with a displacement of 3.3 liters (sorry a little!) and a BMW-like interior design (really!) to its brand. The new CX-60 family SUV, previously only available as a plug-in hybrid. Both are now available to order.

The price read well for the 200 hp model, a penalty for ignorance in both cases

As a reminder, the first diesel delivers 200 hp and 450 Nm of torque to the rear wheels only, the second 254 hp and 550 Nm of torque to all four wheels. Both are mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and a limited hybrid to reduce consumption and CO2 emissions (we’ll come back to this). In both cases, the performance is sufficient to accommodate the traffic. The first performs from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.4 s and goes up to 212 km / h, the second takes 7.4 s to go from 0 to 100 km / h and can reach a maximum speed of 219 kph.

The 200 hp diesel lowers the entry ticket to the CX-60 range by €2,300 (€52,650 minimum for the CX-60 PHEV). Its 254 hp version costs €1,300 more than the plug-in hybrid… it’s more powerful at 73 hp and exempt from any penalty. Note, however, the very good performance of the CX-60 diesel 4×2 4×4 in terms of emissions. With 139 g/km of CO2 in the “worst case”, the CO2 penalty will not exceed €280. On a car displayed over 50,000 €, such an addition is ridiculous.

Because these two diesels should use less of a plug-in hybrid on expressways and highways (areas unsuitable for PHEVs), they may appeal to older drivers. The only real flaw is their Crit’Air 2 patch which will exclude them from certain cities (but there is still some time). Let’s also hope that the driving pleasure is better. Experiments will allow us to confirm all this.
